There are two numbers that shape every meaningful conversation about red light therapy. Knowing what they mean — and how they work in your tissue — is the difference between choosing a device that fits your goals and choosing one that simply looks the part.

Common Questions

Is 850nm better than 660nm? Neither is universally better — they target different tissue depths and different conditions. 850nm penetrates deeper and is more relevant for muscle recovery and joint pain. 660nm is more relevant for skin health and surface healing. Most clients benefit from both.

Can you feel near-infrared light? At therapeutic (non-thermal) doses, 850nm is typically not felt — it is invisible and does not produce warmth. Some users report mild warmth at higher irradiance levels, but therapeutic panels operate below the heating threshold.

Does the ratio of 660nm to 850nm matter? Yes. A 1:1 ratio (equal red and NIR) is balanced for skin and recovery. A 1:2 ratio (more NIR) favors deeper tissue and recovery applications. Reputable manufacturers publish their LED ratios — if they don't, that is itself a signal.

Is 850nm safe for eyes? Near-infrared light is invisible, which means the eye's blink reflex isn't triggered. Prolonged direct NIR exposure to the eye can cause retinal damage. Always use appropriate eye protection during full-body or facial panel sessions.
